Hey There!
I'm Ann-Marie
The mama, the myth, the maker behind The Prairie Doula.
I'm a mum of 2 boys and proud owner of a Scottish husband. I know that every postpartum period is unique, and I'm here to support you and ensure you feel cared for during this new season of life. I do this with practical knowledge, hands-on help, a sense of humor ( crucial for raising little ones), and always a snack on hand!

The Prairie Doula
I was born and raised in Calgary and went to University in Vancouver (Musical Theatre, if you're wondering). In my mid twenties, I fulfilled my dream of moving to Scotland and took off to Glasgow with no job, no friends and a flat I found on the internet. There I met my husband and we had our first son in 2022.
Having a baby an ocean away from my family and friends really opened my eyes to the need for community. Without the wonderful mums I met at baby groups and the friends I made in Glasgow, postpartum would have been an incredibly lonely time and even more difficult than it already was.

I became interested in Doula work after the birth of my second child in 2024, this time at home in Canada.
During my maternity leave, I created a walking group that turned into a large support and friendship group and in doing so, cemented my belief that community and support in the postpartum season is invaluable to the success of parenthood.
In my life as a mother I have delivered both C-section and VBAC and have suffered from PPD and PPA. TMI? Nothing is TMI after you’ve given birth. Postpartum is hard enough without shying away from taboo topics, because someone has definitely already gone through what you’re going through, and I firmly believe that sometimes it just helps to talk.

I am a qualifying doula studying with The Doula School Canada. Prior to training as a doula, I was an early years educator in Calgary and in Glasgow, Scotland. I have extensive knowledge of play-based education, the need for outdoor exploration, and Montessori and Emilia Reggiano practices. I sign Makaton (baby sign) and BSL. I believe in supportive and affirming care using evidence-based practices.
What to expect when working with me? Kindness comes first. Whether you’re a postpartum client or an infant support client, my approach to care is with understanding and compassion. My goal is to meet you wherever you’re at and support you from there. My core belief is that parenthood is not an island, and you do not need to feel alone. Regardless of what we’re doing, you can expect laughs, a cup of tea, and one or two anecdotes.
